LEWISBURG, Pa. – One day after earning Fifth Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week honors for her record-breaking performance at the Penn State National Open, Bucknell junior Christine Bendzinski has now received M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Week accolades.
Bendzinski broke the school record in the mile at Penn State, recording an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:45.36, shattering the previous mark of 4:49.99 set by Caroline Tolli in 2013. Bendzinski’s time in the race is now the top mark in the Patriot League by nearly five seconds.
Bendzinski was one of three Bison to post a top-10 program mark over the weekend. Sarah Chandler also competed in the mile, clocking in at 4:50.04, which is now the third-fastest time in school annals. Colleen Buckley made her way onto Bucknell’s top-10 list in the 5,000-meter with a time of 17:15.47, now the fastest mark in the league by five seconds.
All three Bison will be in action this week as the squad continues to prep for the Patriot League Championships. Bendzinski and Chandler along with a group of Bison will compete in the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame, while Buckley along with others will participate in the Youngstown State Invitational. Both meets are set for Feb. 3-4.
