Sam Carlino
Assistant Coach

Sam Carlino is set to begin her third season as an assistant coach for the Bucknell field hockey team in the fall of 2018. She has helped guide the Bison to a spot in the Patriot League Tournament in each of her first two seasons after coming to Lewisburg following a four-year playing career as a goalkeeper at the University of Massachusetts.

The Bison went 19-19 overall over Carlino's first two seasons on the coaching staff. They advanced to the 2018 Patriot League title game in 2018 following a 2-1 win in a shootout over second-seeded American in the semifinal round. Senior goalie Emily Finn stopped all three shots she faced in the shootout to help secure the win.

In her first season at Bucknell, the Bison recorded a league-best six shutouts on their way to a 9-9 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the Patriot League. Carlino mentored Finn, who registered all six shutouts and finished second in the conference with a .744 save percentage. Finn would go on to finish her career with top-10 ranks all-time at Bucknell in career winning percentage, wins, shutouts, and saves. She earned two Patriot League All-Tournament honors and one All-Patriot League selection during Carlino's two seasons in charge of the team's goalies.

A starting goalkeeper all four seasons for the Minutewomen, Carlino earned First Team All-Conference recognition as a junior and Second Team status as a freshman. She added NFHCA Second Team All-Region honors as a sophomore. A two-year team captain, Carlino helped UMass win three Atlantic 10 titles during her career, resulting in NCAA First and Second Round appearances.

Carlino gained valuable coaching experience while still a student at Massachusetts. She coached goalkeepers at camps at Trinity College and West Chester University, with the USA Field Hockey Futures, and with Element Athletics.

In addition to her collegiate career, Carlino further honed her goalkeeping skills with USA Field Hockey. She was invited to the USA National Team Trials in 2016. Prior to that, she trained with the Northeast Region, Junior National Camp and Under 21 Team, and competed in the 2013 Under 21 Junior World Cup in Germany.

Carlino graduated from Massachusetts in 2016 with a degree in environmental science. A Dean's List student, she was a four-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad and a three-time selection to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team.
