LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior RB Joey DeFloria on Monday became the second football player this year to be named 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week. The first-year starter ran 28 times for 149 yards and one touchdown as he helped Bucknell to a 21-20 comeback victory at Holy Cross on Saturday.

DeFloria posted his third 100-yard game of the season with 129 of the yards coming in the second half. He set career highs for rushes (28), all-purpose yards (186) and receiving yards (37) as the Bison came back to win after trailing 17-0 in the first half.

DeFloria had a key part in all three of Bucknell’s scoring drives in the contest. He had receptions of 18 and 14 yards on the team’s first-half touchdown drive that ended with him scoring on a one-yard run. In the second half, DeFloria had runs of 43 and 44 yards on the two touchdown drives. Those were the two longest runs of his career.

The 32nd player in program history with at least three career 100-yard rushing games, DeFloria leads the Bison in rushing yards with a career-high 585 this year, including four games with at least 98 yards. He paces the squad with 697 all-purpose yards and has scored a team-high seven touchdowns.

On a national level, DeFloria ranks 13th in rushing yards per game (117.0), 20th in rushing touchdowns (6), 25th in all-purpose yards per game (139.4) and 27th in scoring (8.4 points per game).

Bucknell (2-3, 1-0 PL) will return home this weekend to host Colgate at 1 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. It is the first of two consecutive home games for the Bison.
