LEWISBURG, Pa. – Two Bucknell football players picked up weekly awards on Monday, just a couple days after the Bison’s 42-17 Homecoming victory over Lafayette. Junior DL Abdullah Anderson was named 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career, while freshman RB Chad Freshnock earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season.
Anderson became the second football player in the last three weeks to be named Bison Athlete of the Week as he totaled a career-high-tying eight tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks in Bucknell’s win. Anderson was part of a stingy Bison defense that limited the Leopards to 268 yards of total offense, nearly 60 below their season average entering the game.
Anderson ranks third on the team with 41 tackles, is tied for the team lead with four sacks and ranks second on the squad with eight tackles for loss. On a career level, he has 115 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks while starting all 29 games since he arrived at Bucknell in 2014.
Freshnock, who was named PL Rookie of the Week following the season-opening win at Marist, ran 18 times for 76 yards and equaled his career high with two touchdown runs. He has now scored four touchdowns in the last three weeks as he helped the Bison rush for 259 yards, their highest total since 2013.
Bucknell (3-4, 2-1 PL) will open a three-game road stretch this Saturday when it travels to No. 9 Charleston Southern for an 11:45 a.m. contest.
