LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell freshman Rade Joksimovic (Novi sad, Serbia/Gimnazija Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj) has been named the Bison Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. The conference Player and Rookie of the Year totaled 24 goals, two assists, 12 steals, six ejections drawn, and won four sprints in leading Bucknell to the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference title this past weekend at Kinney Natatorium.

It is the 14th weekly award this year for Joksimovic, who has earned 11 weekly awards from the conference office.

Joksimovic, who was named MVP and Rookie of the Tournament as well as First Team All-Tournament, opened the weekend with a record-setting performance. He scored a school-record 14 goals in a quarterfinal-round victory over Connecticut College. Joksimovic eclipsed the previous record of 13 that had been held by Josh Watts and had stood since 1999. It was the third double-figure goal output of the season for Joksimovic, who exited the game with more than five minutes to play in the third quarter.

In Saturday’s semifinal victory over Fordham, Joksimovic scored six goals and helped spearhead a strong team defensive performance with six steals.

In Sunday’s championship game, Joksimovic scored a team-high four goals, including two during a key 7-0 run that helped the Bison open up a six-goal advantage on the way to an 11-5 victory.

Joksimovic leads Bucknell with 148 goals this season, placing him in third place on the program’s single-season goals list. His team-high 177 points tie him for fifth place on that list. Joksimovic is tied with Sean Daley for the team lead in steals with 72, placing them in fifth place in the school record book.

Joksimovic has been a key cog in Bucknell’s 23-4 record this season. The Bison are getting set to face Harvard in Saturday’s NCAA play-in game in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Bucknell is ranked 12th nationally and has won nine consecutive games. The Crimson (25-6) are ranked 11th nationally and have won nine of their last 10 games.
