LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Junior center Nana Foulland, one of the catalysts of Bucknell's current three-game winning streak, was named Patriot League Men’s Basketball The Rock Player of the Week and Fifth Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Bucknell started out last week with a thrilling 75-72 road win at Vanderbilt, marking the team's first win over a Southeastern Conference opponent since beating Arkansas in the 2006 NCAA Tournament. The Bison went on to defeat Norfolk State (84-58) and Northern Colorado (75-63) on back-to-back days to claim the "Upper Division" championship of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational.
In those three games, Foulland averaged 15.7 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 71 percent from the field (22-31). He logged 15 points and 12 rebounds in the win at Vanderbilt. He scored twice in the closing minutes with Bucknell clinging to a one-possession lead, including two big free throws in a one-point game with 31 seconds left.
Foulland made it two straight double-doubles with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the rout of Norfolk State. A day later, he overcame some early foul trouble to score 18 points on 9-for-10 shooting in the win over Northern Colorado.
For the season, Foulland is now shooting 71.2 percent from the field, the 10th-best clip in the nation. He is averaging 14.9 points and 8.0 rebounds through seven games, helping the Bison to a 5-2 record.
Bucknell has a tough week ahead, with two games against teams from the Atlantic 10. The Bison host Richmond on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before visiting La Salle on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Richmond game will be televised locally on WQMY-TV and streamed live on PatriotLeague.TV.
