After a fun week of training in Florida and being home for the holidays, the Bison began the New Year with some more intense training back at Bucknell.  At the end of our first week of training back at school, the second annual Orange vs. Blue intersquad meet was held.  The Blue team was victorious, but the friendly competition and chance to race in a low-stress, fun environment allowed us to prepare and get ready to race in our first dual meets since mid-November with consecutive meets against Loyola and Army the following weekend on January 13th and 14th.  The weekend started on a high note after both the men’s and women’s teams defeated Loyola on Friday night, but both teams also fell to Army on Saturday in a very close meet.  However despite the fall to Army, our intense two weeks of training seemed to pay off as several swimmers went season-best times over the weekend.

In the free time we had between practices, we were able to help out the community by volunteering at the food bank at the First Baptist Church in Lewisburg at the conclusion of our intersquad meet.  It was a great opportunity for our team to be able to meet and help out some of the residents of Lewisburg.  The next day, we also taught a swim clinic to the age-group swimmers of the Mt. Caraml area.  The team was able to come out to our pool for two hours on Saturday evening where they were broken up into small groups, and we were able to give them more individual attention and help with each of the strokes through different drills and technique work.

This past weekend, we hosted Lehigh for Senior Day, where we honored we honored our outstanding class of six seniors  We finish our regular competition season this weekend with back-to-back meets against West Virginia, followed by the Bison Invite.  It has been a great season so far, and I am excited to see our hard work pay off in the championship season at Patriots and ECACs! Go Bison!
