LEWISBURG, Pa. – Following a fantastic performance over the weekend at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships, Bucknell junior Nicholas Lombardo has been named Fifth Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week. Lombardo has now earned the citation for the second time this year.
Lombardo was impressive in helping the Bison men to a fourth-place finish at the league championships. The junior began the weekend capturing the gold medal in the long jump for the second consecutive year, posting a leap of 22-5 ¼. On the final day, he became the first Bison in program history to win the outdoor title in the high jump, recording a mark of 6-9 ¾. Lombardo also scored in the triple jump, posting a top-10 program effort of 47-2 ¼.
The junior captain was named Male Field Athlete of the Meet, becoming the fourth Bison and the first since Leonard Joseph in 2013 to receive the honor. Lombardo joins Ron Hess (1999) in earning Patriot League Athlete of the Meet recognition in the same indoor and outdoor season.
Lombardo has solidified his status as one of the premiere jumpers in the Patriot League. The junior also won gold in the indoor long jump and high jump events this season.
Lombardo and a group of Bison will compete this weekend (May 12-14) at the IC4A Championships at Princeton.
