Matt Butterfield joined the Bucknell football staff as a volunteer assistant coach in March 2018. Butterfield, who has worked for six FBS programs since 2007, will mentor the Bison tight ends and fullbacks.
"We are fortunate to welcome Matt to our program," said head coach Joe Susan. "He comes to us with a great deal of experience and has considerable familiarity with what we will do offensively. We feel he is a positive addition to our program."
Butterfield most recently served one season as an offensive assistant at Oklahoma State, where he worked with the quarterbacks and tight ends. There, he assisted in game planning and scheme adjustments and directed signal coordination.
Before his stint with the Cowboys, Butterfield spent the 2016 campaign as a senior offensive and special teams analyst at the University of Oregon. Also an assistant tight ends coach for the Ducks, he was primarily responsible for the analysis and evaluation of offensive personnel, special teams personnel and opponent personnel.
Butterfield also served as an offensive graduate assistant at Boise State (2015) and UCLA (2012-13). He held two positions at Arizona State, serving as a senior associate offensive analyst during the 2014 season and in quality control positions from 2010 to 2011.
Butterfield broke into coaching as an undergraduate coach at the University of Colorado. He graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in history. He went on to complete a Master's Degree in Education from UCLA in 2014.
