Eric Wicks
Assistant Coach (Def. Secondary/Safeties)

Eric Wicks, an All-Big East performer at West Virginia from 2004 to 2007, joined the Bucknell coaching staff in the spring of 2013. After coaching the Bison cornerbacks during his first four seasons, he began to oversee the entire defensive secondary with a focus on the safeties in 2017.

Wick's safeties played a key role in Bucknell's defensive success in 2017. The Bison ultimately finished fourth nationally in passing defense (148.3) and 11th in total defense (294.6). Safeties accounted for six of Bucknell's 11 interceptions, and Brandon Benson (68) and Joe Lauro (58) ranked third and fourth among Bison in total tackles.

In Wicks’s final season overseeing the cornerbacks, Bryan Marine became the first Bucknell cornerback to earn All-Patriot League honors since All-American Bryce Robertson in 2011. Marine, who totaled 54 tackles, also registered 13 pass breakups, the most by a Bison since 2004.

A three-time All-Big East defensive back, Wicks was a three-year starter with the Mountaineers and went on to sign a free-agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks. One of the leaders of West Virginia’ defense, he helped the squad rank seventh nationally in total defense in 2007, his senior season.

Wicks joined the coaching ranks as a graduate assistant at Pittsburgh in 2010. He spent two years focusing his efforts on video, special teams and outside linebackers. In 2012, he expanded his role and helped mentor the linebackers and defensive backs while also having a hand in recruiting.

Wicks earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic coaching education from West Virginia in 2007.
