LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell volleyball team fell 3-0 to Colgate in the Patriot League opener for both teams Friday night at Davis Gym. The match was a part of the Bucknell Invitational, which also featured a contest between Providence and Delaware State earlier in the day. Play concludes with four matches on Saturday.

Bucknell dropped a close one in the first set, falling 25-23 after back-and-forth action. Colgate rolled to a 25-15 win in the second set, and appeared to be on its way to doing the same in the third before the Bison put together a great comeback attempt. The Raiders went up 19-12, but the Bison responded with nine of the next 12 points to cut the deficit to one, 22-21. The Raiders held on for a 25-22 verdict to get the sweep and improve to 1-9 on the season.

The Bison fell to 5-4 despite another great effort by Karen Campbell. The senior led the team with 12 kills and a .426 hitting percentage, showing a clearly improved connection with senior setter Meghan Wentzel compared to last season. Wentzel tallied 37 assists. Freshman Blake Buchholz received a large chunk of those, finishing with 11 kills.

Kathleen Harris was the clear MVP for Colgate in the win. She was nearly flawless on the day, leading all players with 22 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, while adding 11 digs. Jackie Macy tallied 40 assists and 10 digs.

Sophomores Hailey Stout and Hana Sawanobori led the defensive effort for Bucknell, finishing with nine digs apiece. Junior Erika Eastley returned from an injury to play for the first time this season and registered two solo blocks.

Bucknell will play Providence at noon and Delaware State at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Providence swept Delaware State 3-0 on Friday.
