BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Amanda Fazio turned in a solid pitching performance, but Bucknell struggled offensively in a 2-1 loss at Boston University in a Patriot League softball game on Sunday. The Bison dropped two of three games in the series and return to Lewisburg at 22-18 overall and 7-5 in the conference.

Similar to the way Bucknell rallied late for the win in the second game on Saturday, Boston University scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to close the series with a win on Sunday. The Terriers had three singles in the inning, scoring one run on a hit by Jilee Schanda and another on a sacrifice fly by Gabi Martinez.

Boston University improved to 14-20 overall and 2-4 in the Patriot League. Lauren Hynes pitched all seven innings to notch her ninth win of the season. She gave up three hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out five.

Fazio went all six innings for the Bison, falling to 12-8 on the year. She gave up two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three. Her season ERA increased just slightly to 1.81. That leads the league by a large margin.

Senior Mariah Midyette had Bucknell’s lone extra-base hit with a double. The Bison led 1-0 after four innings thanks to an RBI single by sophomore Jacee Almond.  Fazio led off the inning with a single and scored on Almond’s hit.

Bucknell is still in good shape as it looks to secure one of the league’s four spots for the conference tournament. The Bison are just one loss behind Army West Point for second.

The Bison will play a doubleheader at Saint Francis on Tuesday at 3 p.m., and will resume conference play with three games at Colgate on Saturday and Sunday.
