LORETTO, Pa. – Junior forward Kendall Ham found the back of the net with under a minute to play in the second half to fuel the Bucknell women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Saint Francis (Pa.) Sunday at Stokes Soccerplex. The Bison improve to 2-0 on the year and pick up their first victory in Loretto since 2006.

The Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year headed in the game-winning score off a cross from Maddie Mulford with 42 seconds left to play in regulation for her first goal of the 2016 season.

Bucknell battled through wet and soggy field conditions Sunday, but managed to rack up 28 shot attempts and 11 corner kick opportunities in the contest.

The Bison back line did a solid job limiting the Red Flash offense, holding Saint Francis (0-2) to six shot attempts all afternoon, with just two attempts coming in the second half. Goalkeeper Jessica Ratner finished with three saves in the victory.

Saint Francis goalkeeper Julia Hernan was under pressure throughout the game, but recorded eight saves in the loss.

“We had a slow start but really picked it up in the second half,” said head coach Kelly Cook. “We failed to capitalize on a few scoring opportunities and the goalkeeper of Saint Francis came up big on a number of plays. The goal was a tremendous team effort and a great finish by Kendall. I was glad to see us fight to the very end.”

Bucknell returns to action on Aug. 23 with an exhibition against the Papua New Guinea U-20 National Team. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. and will broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
