PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 18 Bucknell men’s water polo team won its first two games of the season on Saturday, including a one-goal victory over No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn. The Bison were looking to complete a perfect opening weekend of the season on Sunday, but fell to No. 4 Pacific by a 15-7 score at the Bruno Classic. Nate Hunter led Bucknell with two goals.
Pacific, which was 23-5 last fall, improved to 4-0 this weekend with the win. Aleksander Petrovic, Ege Colak and Devon Thumwood tallied three goals apiece for the Tigers, who scored the first seven goals in the contest.
Hunter scored Bucknell’s first goal early in the second quarter. He added another in the third period, while R.J. Moore, Marko Djordjevic, Sean Daley, Jeff Hagen and Rade Joksimovic also found the back of the cage in the game. The Bison, who had both Moore and Joksimovic foul out of the game, outscored Pacific 5-4 in the second half.
Bucknell will be idle next weekend before making its home debut with four games at the Bison Invitational Sept. 16-18.
