HERSHEY, Pa. – Bucknell women’s tennis opened the spring season with a 7-0 win over La Salle at the Hersey Racquet Club on Saturday evening. The Bison won all six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests.

Junior Allie Lane had the closest match of the night for Bucknell, defeating Maansi Malhotra in a third set super tiebreaker on court six. Lane, who did not compete in the fall, improved to 1-0. She outlasted Malhotra 7-6 in the first set, dropped the second set, and took the tiebreaker 10-6.

Junior Lisa Jouravleva also went three sets, bouncing back from a 6-2 defeat in set one to beat Ali Snyder on court two. She reversed that score with 6-2, 6-2 scores to get the victory. Jouravleva was also competing for the first time during the 2016-17 season.

Sophomore Danielle Gannon had the most dominant showing of the night for the Bison. She shut out Jade Smith 6-0, 6-0 on court five to improve to 5-4 during the fall and spring seasons combined.

Adding straight-set wins were senior captain Michele Urbinati on court one, junior Madeline Melch on court three, and senior captain Melissa Parks on court four. Urbinati evened her 2016-17 record at 5-5.

“We looked a little match rusty, which was to be expected, but it was nice to see the women go out swinging,” Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said. “We had everybody on the team in the lineup except Lauren (Fishbein), who is out sick. It’s always great to see our depth.”

Gannon added a shutout in doubles competition, teaming with freshman Jill Auteri for a 6-0 triumph on court three. The duo improved to 5-2.

Bucknell’s other doubles win came on court two, where junior Emilie Bush and sophomore Mishi Papich won 6-3. Bush and Papich were playing together for the first time.

La Salle dropped to 0-3 overall.

Bucknell will next play at Binghamton on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
