BOSTON, Mass. – The Bucknell women’s track and field team capped off a successful Saturday at the Patriot League Indoor Championships by setting school and league record in the 4x800-meter relay.
Bucknell’s 4x8 relay was comprised of Emma Harris, Margaret Sliney, Sarah Chandler and Christine Bendzinski. The quartet finished the race in 8:50.58, shaving nearly three seconds off the previous mark set by a team featuring Harris, Chandler and Bendzinski in last year’s league championships. The trio has now set the school and league record in the race for the last three seasons.
The Bison sit in second-place following day two of the championship meet, tallying 52 points. Lehigh leads the 10-team field with 60 points, while defending champion Boston University is third with 35.
Competing in her first indoor championship meet, Colleen Buckley earned All-Patriot League honors in the 5,000m, taking second with a time of 17:04.09, shaving 11 seconds off her previous personal-record. Her time is now the fourth-fastest in school history. Kate Scott finished fourth in the race, while Lauren Gronbeck took sixth, adding to the Bison point total.
Lauren Hudson earned All-Patriot League status in the high jump, finishing second with a leap of 5-7, a personal-record and the third-best jump in school annals.
Molly Montalvo reached the podium in the weight throw, taking third with a toss of 54-1 ¾, which is a new personal-record and seventh-best in program history. Competing in her first league championships, Ella Schultz scored for the Bison in the event, taking seventh with a mark of 48-2 ¾, a personal-best.
Kaitlin Salisbury scored for the Bison in the long jump, taking fifth. She also qualified for Sunday’s final in the 60, winning her heat and finishing with the top time in the prelims, 7.66. The rookie will also compete in the finals of the 200m.
“Our women had a very good day two, but so did Boston,” said head coach Kevin Donner. “It looks like it’s going to be a close meet. Hudson had a great day in the high jump and Montalvo had a huge sixth toss in the weight throw to get third. Our 5k kids all ran well and the 4x8 relay team did a great job to break the school and league record.”
The Patriot League Indoor Championships will conclude on Sunday with points in 14 events up for grabs. The final day will stream on the Patriot League Network.Team Score
