PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Bucknell baseball team won its third consecutive game Sunday, coming from behind to defeat Northeastern 9-7 at North Charlotte Regional Park.
Bucknell (6-5) has scored seven runs or more during its winning streak, generating at least 13 hits in each contest.
The Bison produced 15 hits Sunday, led by Brett Smith, who went 3-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to seven games, while recording four RBIs and two runs scored. Danny Rafferty finished with three hits and three RBIs. Keifer Rawlings, Evan Klugerman and Tyler Wincig recorded two hits apiece, while Chuckie Scales scored three runs.
Connor Van Hoose started on the mound for Bucknell, pitching 4.1 innings. The Bison used four relievers in the game, including Matt Shobe (0.2 IP), Tommy Gambon (1.1 IP), Jack Schoenberger (0.2 IP) and Nate Grisius (2.0) IP).
Northeastern (6-8), coming off a win over Lehigh on Saturday, scored three runs in the opening inning and held a 5-2 lead going into the fifth.
Bucknell scored a run in the fifth inning and took the lead for good with three more runs in the sixth. The Huskies scored a run in the eighth and one more in the ninth, but fell short of a comeback.
The Bison return to the diamond Tuesday (Mar. 14) with a matchup against Harvard. Game time is slated for 10:30 a.m.
