VERO BEACH, Fla. – Bucknell softball added two more wins over Saint Peter’s on Tuesday, improving to 14-4 on the season and 5-1 during its spring trip to Florida. The Bison pitching staff came through with some solid performances, helping the team to 8-1 and 4-1 victories.
Saint Peter’s, which opened its season against Bucknell on Monday, dropped to 0-4.
Bucknell was scheduled to play a doubleheader with South Carolina State on Thursday, but those games have been cancelled. The Bison will conclude their trip south with two games at Stetson on Friday. The first contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Game 1 – Bucknell 8, Saint Peter’s 1
Bucknell broke a 1-1 stalemate with four runs in the sixth inning and then added three more in the seventh for an 8-1 win in the opener.
Freshman Lauren Lichtenwalner picked up her first career win, giving up just one run in a complete-game performance. She allowed three hits, walked one batter, and struck out four.
Lauren Hadley led Bucknell’s 11-hit attack with a single and double, while Anna Gimmestad, Meghan Kovac, and Christina Martinez had two singles apiece. Paulina Gutkin, Ryanne Rokos, and Chaylen Andolino each singled.
The Bison took advantage of seven errors by Saint Peter’s.
Game 2 – Bucknell 4, Saint Peter’s 1
The second game was never in doubt as Bucknell scored once in the first inning and held the lead the rest of the way in a 4-1 win.
Raeanne Geffert, the reigning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, pitched six innings of relief to get the win. She gave up three hits, walked two, and struck out five.
Bucknell had six hits in the win, including the lone extra-base hit, a double by Kovac. Hadley singled twice, and Marisa Alemany, Gimmestad, and Rokos each singled.
The Bison have won 10 straight games in the series with Saint Peter’s.
