PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Massachusetts scored 17 runs on 20 hits, while holding Bucknell scoreless for seven innings Thursday in a 17-5 decision at North Charlotte Regional Park.

Luke Johnson went 3-for-4, while Chuckie Scales and Marc Chernin posted two hits apiece, as the Bison generated 11 hits in the contest.

Bucknell (6-8) used four pitchers in the game with Danny Rafferty (6.0 IP) pitching the longest. He allowed seven hits and was charged with three earned runs. Tommy Gambon (1.2 IP), P.J. Strahm (0.2 IP) and John Burkly (0.2 IP) pitched the final three innings.

The Minutemen (4-5) scored one run each in the second and third innings. Massachusetts expanded on its lead with four runs in the sixth and four more in the eighth.

The Bison got on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning with runs scored by Scales, Chernin and Brett Smith.

Massachusetts countered with seven runs in the ninth inning on eight hits. Bucknell scored two more times in the final inning, with runs scored by Rafferty and Miles Moore.

Justin Lasko pitched 7.1 innings for the Minutemen, scattering eight hits while being credited with one earned run. Carter Knapek came in relief for the final 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs.

Bucknell will play the middle game of its three-game series with Massachusetts Friday at 4 p.m.
