LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Mike Castellani tossed a complete game shutout to lead the Bucknell baseball team to a 1-0 win over Cornell in the nightcap of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Depew Field. The Big Red claimed game one by a 7-3 score.

Bucknell is now 9-12 on the year, while Cornell moves to 9-4.

The Bison begin Patriot League play Apr. 1-2 with a four-game series at Lehigh. All four games will broadcast on the Patriot League Network.

Game 1 – Cornell 7, Bucknell 3
Cornell scored the game’s first run in the fourth inning off a two-out single from Frankie Padulo.

The Bison answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Chuckie Scales scored on a sacrifice fly from Sam Clark, while Luke Johnson scored Danny Rafferty on a single to center field. Johnson scored on the next at bat from Keifer Rawlings.

The Big Red responded with five runs in the fifth inning and plated one more in the seventh for the win.  

Game 2 – Bucknell 1, Cornell 0
Castellani (1-1) was the story of game two as he scattered three hits while striking out four, going the distance for the first time in his career. The lefty held the Big Red without a hit in seven of the nine frames.

Rawlings scored the game’s only run in the seventh inning. Rawlings swung on the first pitch from Paul Balestrieri, the reigning Ivy League Pitcher of the Week who entered the game with an ERA of 0.93, sending the ball over the left field fence for his second home run of the season.
