LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell baseball played its final regular season home games of the year Tuesday, and dropped a non-league doubleheader to St. Bonaventure at Depew Field. The Bonnies won the opening game in eight innings, 5-4, and won the nightcap in six innings, 7-4. The final inning of game two was called off due to darkness.
Brett Smith extended his hit streak to 12 games, finishing 5-for-8 with three extra-base hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Danny Rafferty posted two hits and scored two runs, while Keifer Rawlings recorded two hits and three RBIs.
Bucknell (17-20, 8-4 PL) will resume Patriot League action this weekend (Apr. 22-23) with an important four-game series at Holy Cross. All four contests will broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
Game 1: St. Bonaventure 5, Bucknell 4 (8 innings)
Bucknell scored the game’s first run in the third inning, thanks to a RBI single from Rawlings that scored Rafferty from third base.
The Bonnies tied the game with a run in the fourth inning, but Rawlings plated two more runs on a two-out single in the bottom of the inning to give the Bison a 3-1 advantage.
St. Bonaventure regained the lead in the fifth inning with three runs. Bucknell tied the game up in the sixth inning, thanks to a sacrifice fly from Luke Johnson.
The Bonnies scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, snapping their three-game losing streak.
Game 2: St. Bonaventure 7, Bucknell 4 (6 innings)
St. Bonaventure scored all seven of its runs in the first two innings combined, highlighted by a three-run home run from T.J. Baker.
The Bison cut into the margin with four runs in the fifth inning, fueled by a two-run triple from Smith and a two-run double from Sam Clark, extending his hit streak to nine games.
