WEST POINT, N.Y. – Offensive struggles proved costly for the Bucknell softball team as it dropped both games of a Patriot League doubleheader at Army West Point on Saturday. The Bison fell 2-0 in game one and 3-1 in game two.

The Bison head to Sunday’s series finale with a record of 23-14 overall and 6-5 in the Patriot League, while the Black Knights improved to 30-16 overall and 9-5 in the conference.

Bucknell holds a three-game lead over Holy Cross for the final spot in the Patriot League Tournament. The Bison head to Worcester, Massachusetts, for a three-game series against the Crusaders next weekend.

Game 1 – Army West Point 2, Bucknell 0
Caroline Smith pitched a one-hit shutout to lead Army West Point to a 2-0 win in game one. She didn’t walk a batter and struck out two.

Carolyn Wan had the lone hit for Bucknell with a single up the middle in the fourth inning. She also reached base later in the game with a hit-by-pitch.

Army scored both of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Swafford Ballesteros had an RBI triple, and Izzy Gates added an RBI single.

Game 2 – Army West Point 3, Bucknell 1
Army scored twice in the first inning and held on for a 3-1 win over Bucknell in the second game. Renee Poirier went all seven innings to get the victory.

Lauren Licthenwalner was solid in relief for the Bison, allowing one run on four hits and no walks in 5.1 innings. She struck out four batters.

Bucknell cut the deficit in half with its lone run in the third inning. Ryanne Rokos scored on a single by Anna Gimmestad.

The Bison finished with six hits, including two singles by Christina Martinez. Gimmestad, Paulina Gutkin, Meghan Kovac, and Rokos added one hit apiece.
