BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Nicholas Lombardo was crowned Patriot League champion in the long jump on Friday to lead the Bucknell men's track and field team on the opening day of the Patriot League Outdoor Championships at Lehigh's Goodman Track and Field Complex.

The Bison are in second-place following the first day of competition, tallying 47 points. Navy leads the field with 67 points, while Army is in third with 38 points.

Lombardo successfully defended his outdoor title, winning the event with a leap of 23-8. Will Carter reached the podium, taking third with a mark of 22-5 1/4. The Bison recorded 21 points in the event, as Steve Bolger scored with a sixth-place finish.

Competing at the outdoor championships for the final time in his career, Luke Giugliano earned his first All-Patriot League citation. In the 10,000-meter, the senior earned the silver medal with a time of 30:30.77.

In the 4x800m relay, a team comprised of Nick Pacelli, Sean Conway, Jordan Jackson and Scott Gulizio finished second with a time of 7:34.95, earning Second Team All-Patriot League honors.

Bo Burleigh reached the podium in the javelin, finishing third with a toss of 180-8. Terry Hall scored in the event with a four-place showing.

Also scoring for Bucknell was Joseph Breen in the discus.

William Melchionni qualified for Saturday's final in the 200m, taking fifth-place in the prelims with a time of 21.59, a personal record.

“Overall, a very solid day,” said head coach Kevin Donner. “ Some guys struggled out there while others stepped up big. I was very pleased with the javelin and long jump. Those athletes really came to play. Luke looked good in the 10k and the 4x800 relay team ran well.

The Patriot League Outdoor Championships concludes on Saturday. The final day will broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
