LORETTO, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball concluded its non-conference schedule by splitting its final two matches at the Red Flash Classic on Saturday. The Bison fell 3-0 to Morehead State in their opening contest of the day, but bounced back with a 3-1 win over Norfolk State.
The Bison finished non-league play with a .500 record at 6-6, eclipsing last season’s win total before Patriot League play has even started. Morehead State improved to 8-4, while Norfolk State fell to 2-8.
“It was a good tournament, and now we are excited to start league play,” Bucknell head coach Anna Allison said. “We showed great resilience and a good mindset coming back from a not-so-strong start. We have a lot to work on as we get back in the gym on Monday and turn our attention to league play.”
Senior Stefanie Alpert was named to the All-Tournament Team, joining junior Brooke Buchholz and sophomores Mimi Richards and Sophie Bullard as Bison players to make All-Tournament teams this season. Alpert finished with 19 kills and three blocks over two matches.
Bucknell’s first two Patriot League matches will be at home in Davis Gym. The Bison host Army West Point on Friday at 7 p.m. and Colgate on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Morehead State 3, Bucknell 0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-20) Olivia Lohmeier tallied 14 kills with a .522 hitting percentage to lead Morehead State to a 3-0 win over Bucknell in the Bison’s first match of the day. The Eagles hit .326 against a usually strong Bison defense.
Bucknell, one of the top blocking teams in the nation, had just four in the loss.
Bucknell 3, Norfolk State 1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14) Bullard had a double-double of 17 kills and 14 digs to lead Bucknell to a four-set win over Norfolk State in the final match of the tournament. It was the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Alpert had a solid performance with 12 kills, while Richards and senior Hailey Stout added 10 kills apiece.
The Spartans were paced by Clara Kick and Taylor Eichelberger with 12 kills apiece.
