ITHACA, N.Y. -- Chris Tanabe continued the strong start to his freshman season, firing a 1-over-par 72 to lead Bucknell on the final day of the Cornell Invitational at RTJ Golf Club. The Bison closed the tournament with a 300 team score and finished in 13th place with an 897 total over 54 holes.
Connor O'Brien was the low Bison for the tournament, placing T-30th at 221 total. He began the final round tied for eighth place after a sensational bogey-free 67 in round two on Saturday. O'Brien birdied his first hole on Sunday and was 1-over after 10 holes, but he couldn't keep the momentum going and finished with a 79.
Tanabe had back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16, and he finished with the two birdies, three bogeys and 13 pars. Tanabe improved in each round, posting scores of 76-74-72 for 222 total.
Ashton Radvansky also had a strong finish, making four birdies en route to a 2-over 73. J.B. Thompson made two birdies and nothing worse than bogey on the way to a 76. Jack Gregor finished up with an 83.
The tournament featured plenty of drama on the final hole. Yale's James Nicholas birdied the 18th for a final-round 69 and a one-shot win over his playing partner John Barone of Temple. But Barone's par at the last clinched the Owls' team title by just a single stroke over Yale.
Cornell, St. Bonaventure and Dartmouth rounded out the top five.
The Bison are back in action next Saturday and Sunday at the Dartmouth Invitational.
