University Park, Pa. – Christine Bendzinski set the school record in the mile on Saturday on the final day of competition at the Penn State National Open at Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
In the mile invite, Bendzinski finished fifth of 14 in the race with a time of 4:44.55, breaking her own previous mark of 4:45.36 that she set last year at the same meet. Colleen Buckley put on quite a performance in the 3,000-meter run, finishing sixth and clocking in at an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:39.05.
Lauren Hudson finished in the top-10 inthe high jump, leaping 5-3. Gianna Mincone placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.77. Tiara Tardy ran in her first 1,000m race of the year and placed second with an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:51.31. With her performance she now ranks sixth on the Bucknell all-time top-10 list.
"Our women had a great meet at Penn State and really established themselves in the Patriot League. We had some great performances at home as well with Salisbury in the triple jump, Waterhouse in the 400, Rooney in the 500, Dolen in the mile and Montalvo in weight. We will continue to build on that momentum going into Boston next week," head coach Kevin Donner said.
Bison Open & Multi
Lewisburg, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s track and field team also concluded action Saturday at the 20th-Annual Bison Open & Multi at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Natalie Waterhouse was the top finisher in the 400m field of 49 runners, finishing in 58.94. Carli Lucke finished seventh with a time of 1:00.13, and Taylor Kennedy took eighth in 1:00.39, giving Bucknell three top-10 finishers in the race.
Kaitlin Salisbury finished second in a field of 21 competitors in the triple jump, leaping 38-02. In the 500m the Bison had the top two finishers. Rebecca Rooney took the top spot with a time of 1:19.20, and Abigail Turco finished second in a time of 1:20.02.
Next up, Bucknell will hit the road for the Scarlet and White Invitational. The meet is set for Feb. 2-3 in Boston.
