PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 25 Bucknell women's water polo team went 2-1 on the first day of Bruno Classic, its season-opening tournament.

The Bison rolled to their victories over Villanova (14-7) and McKendree (15-4) but were edged by Cal Baptist (8-7) on Saturday at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.

Against the Wildcats, Emily Konishi factored into half of Bucknell's goals, netting four and assisting on three more. Colleen Barron (3g-1a), Ally Furano (1g-3a), Kali Hyham (2g) and Sarah Mooney (1g-1a) also had multi-point outings while Shyla Lintz led the team with four ejections drawn and finished second to Konishi (3) with two steals.

The Bison held a slim 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter but outscored the Wildcats 7-2 in the second and third frames to break open the game. Overall, Bucknell out shot Villanova, 26-19, and went 6-for-9 when up a player. Konishi scored two of her four goals off of penalty shots while Furano's goal, the first of her collegiate career, came on a penalty shot.

The Bison then dropped a heartbreaker to the Lancers. After Cal Baptist opened up a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, the teams traded goals in the second and third quarters to bring the score to 8-5. Kali Hyham drew Bucknell within two, finding the back of the net off of a Marta Considine feed; then, Konishi found Barron for a goal while on the power play to make it a one-goal game. Grace Ramirez ultimately denied Considine on the Bison's lone scoring chance after Barron's strike to preserve the victory for the Lancers.

In addition, goaltender Hayley Pogue filled the stat sheet with five saves, three assists and two steals.
