LEWISBURG, Pa. – Behind Mike Macklin and Seth Hogue's pins, and Tyler Smith's team-best eighth victory by major decision, the Bucknell wrestling team raced out to a 16-3 lead, but Army West Point battled back to score a 22-19 victory on Sunday at Davis Gym.

Entering the heavyweight bout, the Black Knights (2-6, 1-3 EIWA) and Bison (3-13, 2-7 EIWA) were locked in a 19-19 tie. Rocco Caywood, who was projected to wrestle at 197 pounds, ultimately edged Brandon Stokes, who started the year at 174 pounds, by a 10-3 decision to seal Army West Point's first EIWA victory of the season.

In the first bout of the day, Macklin brought the Davis Gym crowd to its feet by pinning Trey Chalifoux, who was coming off an individual title at the All-Academy Championships. Macklin, who started for the first time on Feb. 4 at American, pinned Chalifoux in 5:14 to earn his first career victory by fall.

At 141 pounds, Smith downed Austin Harry by a 17-5 major decision to remain undefeated in 2017-18 dual competition. The senior, who is 23-3 overall and 15-0 in dual action, rolled to his victory with seven takedowns. Dating back to Jan. 14, 2017, he has now won 25-straight dual bouts; he racked up bonus points in 17 of those bouts, winning four by fall, four by technical fall and nine by major decision.

Hogue followed up Smith's victory with a quick pin of Will Lucie at 149 pounds. Just 2:25 into the bout, Hogue pressed both of Lucie's shoulders to the mat to win by fall for the first time since Nov. 13, 2016 at the Bearcat Open.

The Black Knights regrouped, winning the next three bouts by a combined margin of 35-3 to cut the Bison's lead to 16-15. Drew Phipps then gave Bucknell a 19-15 edge, topping Noah Stewart by a 7-2 decision at 184 pounds. Phipps stretched his winning streak to four bouts and will enter the Bison's final dual one victory shy of 20.

Jack Wedholm ultimately topped Chad Reese by a 13-1 major decision at 197 pounds to set up Caywood's heroics.

Before the dual, Smith was recognized for winning his 100th career bout on Feb. 4 at American. He is only the 10th Bison to reach this career milestone and needs five wins to enter a tie for ninth with Tom Marchetti (1987-91).

The Bison conclude dual competition against Bloomsburg on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. Before the dual, they will recognize seniors Collin Boylan, Reese, Tom Sleigh, Smith, Zach Valley and Connor Wagh.
