FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The fourth-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks continued to show off their potent offensive lineup on Saturday, topping Bucknell 32-4 in the second game of a three-game series before 7,862 fans at Baum Stadium. Luke Johnson had two hits and two runs batted in, and JohnPaul Bell added two knocks, a run scored and an RBI to lead the Bison.
Bucknell grabbed a 1-0 lead after only two batters. Freshman Dominic Toso, who had a strong day in the leadoff spot in his first collegiate start, got aboard with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on double down the right-field line by Bell.
Toso finished with a single and two walks, and he scored three of the team’s four runs.
But the Bison had trouble keeping Arkansas’ lineup in check. Luke Bonfield hit a 3-run home run off Jack Grabek (0-1) in the bottom of the first to give the Razorbacks the lead for good. They would go on to plate six runs in the second, seven in the third and six more in the fourth before PJ Strahm struck out two batters in a scoreless bottom of the fifth.
Bucknell plated a run in the top of the fifth after back-to-back walks by Toso and Bell and then an RBI single by Johnson. The Bison had runners at the corners with one out, but a line drive by Keifer Rawlings was snagged by the second baseman, and Evan Lee was able to work out of further trouble.
In the seventh, Toso reached on an infield hit and Bell singled to right. Toso scooted to third, and Bell moved up on the throw. The baserunning paid dividends when Toso scored on a wild pitch, and then Johnson brought home Bell with another RBI single.
Arkansas rapped 22 hits and benefitted from 15 walks. Casey Martin paced the attack with a 4-for-6 afternoon with five RBIs. Dominic Fletcher also knocked in five, while Jared Gates and Carson Shaddy drove in four each.
The series finale is set for 1 p.m. Sunday. The game will be televised on SEC Network Plus and the WatchESPN app.
