LEWISBURG, Pa. – Ryanne Rokos hit her first career home run to fuel Bucknell’s best offensive output of the season in a 14-2 win over Holy Cross in Patriot League softball action Sunday at Becker Field. The Bison completed the three-game sweep over the Crusaders to improve to 12-18 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
After six of 18 league games, the Bison sit in second place in the Patriot League standings. The Crusaders dropped to fifth at 7-19 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
The Bison homered in all three wins over the Crusaders. The last of which came from Rokos, usually a lefty slap hitter. She squared up on a pitch in the third inning and pulled it over the left-field fence to give the Bison their fifth home run in three games.
After a scoreless first inning, Bucknell erupted for five runs on four hits in the second. They scored twice on one hit in the third and added seven more runs on four hits in the fourth.
Raeanne Geffert recorded all three wins in the series. In the finale, she went three scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out four.
Eight players combined on Bucknell’s nine hits. In addition to the players with extra-base hits mentioned above, Jess Hom tallied two singles, while Tara Baglivo, Paulina Gutkin, and Halie Mariano each singled once.
The 28 runs scored by Bucknell in the series matched its total from the previous 12 games combined.
Despite a huge lead in the all-time series with Holy Cross, Bucknell’s sweep was its first over the Crusaders since 2013.
Holy Cross finished with four hits, including a double by Jackie Brewster. Taylor Moss, Gabby Muniz, and Sydney Burr all singled.
The Bison continue their eight-game homestand with a non-conference doubleheader against Cornell on Thursday. They follow that with a three-game league series at Lafayette on Saturday and Sunday.
