LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lauren Hadley went 6-for-7 with a home run while leading Bucknell softball to a doubleheader sweep over visiting Cornell on Thursday at Becker Field. The Bison won 12-6 in game one, before ending the second game in five innings with a 12-4 score.

Bucknell, which has won five straight games, improved to 14-18 overall, while the Big Red dropped to 8-14.

Hadley has reached base safely in 14 consecutive games. The nearly perfect day at the plate raised her batting average 38 points to .368.

Bucknell has averaged 10.4 runs during its five-game winning streak, including double-digit runs in each of the past three contests.

The Bison are back in action with three league games at Lafayette over the next two days. Game one will be played at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while the final two games will be a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Game 1 – Bucknell 12, Cornell 6
Eight players combined for 15 hits as Bucknell doubled-up Cornell 12-6 in the first game of the doubleheader. Hadley led the way, going 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Including Hadley, five Bison players had multiple hits in the game. Maddie Minneci singled and tripled, Anna Gimmestad singled and doubled, and Marisa Alemany and Taylor Wolfgang had two singles apiece. Halie Mariano doubled, while Meghan Kovac and Julienne Egofske added singles.

The teams combined for eight unearned runs, but that was the result of just two errors. Bucknell took a 4-1 lead after scoring four unearned runs following a two-out error in the bottom of the second inning. Cornell responded to take a 5-4 lead after scoring four unearned runs of its own following a two-out error in the top of the third inning.

The Bison broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning and then added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Raeanne Geffert started and picked up the win for a fourth consecutive game. She went five innings and allowed one earned run while striking out four batters.

Bridgette Rooney had a big game for Cornell, going 3-for-3 with two home runs.

Game 2 – Bucknell 12, Cornell 4 (5 innings)
The hit parade continued for Bucknell in  game two as nine Bison players combined for 13 hits in a 12-4 win in five innings. Hadley again led the way, going 2-for-3 with a double and her fifth home run of the season.

Hadley’s homer came during a six-run fourth inning by the Bison. It sailed over the center-field fence, scoring Kovac and Gimmestad for a three-run blast.

Wolfgang hit her third home run of the season just one inning earlier. Hers was a solo shot with one out that cleared the left-center field fence.

Minneci added two more hits on the day with a single and a double, while Gimmestad and Jess Hom each singled twice. Alemany had one of the team’s five extra-base hits with a double. Kovac, Egofske, and Tara Baglivo had one single apiece.

Lauren Lichtenwalner started and tallied her fourth win of the season. She pitched 4.1 scoreless innings while giving up just three hits. She struck out two and didn’t walk a batter.
