BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - In the final meet before next weekend’s Patriot League Outdoor Championships, the Bucknell women’s track and field team won 12 events and posted two new top-10 marks on Saturday at the Maroon and Gold Invitational, hosted by Bloomsburg.
Molly Montalvo won the hammer throw with a toss of 179-0, her personal best and the fourth-best mark in school history. The junior has the second-best toss in Patriot League this season, trailing only Kamryn Brinson of Army West Point (187-3), who is the reigning Patriot League outdoor champion. Katie Wisotsky was the runner-up with a personal-best toss of 143-0.
In the discus, Delia Sipe took the top spot after slinging it 137-0 feet. She also earned a runner-up standing in the shot put (42-10 ¾), finishing just behind teammate Ella Schultz (44-04 ¾) for first place. To top off the throwers contingent, Isabella Bjorkeson placed first in the javelin.
Over on the track, Carli Lucke continued her success in the 100-meter dash. Lucke took the top spot with a time of 12.39, crossing the line .24 seconds in front of runner-up finisher Brianna Randolph of Roberts Wesleyan. Taylor Kennedy (12.79) and Emily Ryan (12.89) both broke the 13-second threshold and went 4-5.
Bucknell took spots 2-6 in the 400-meter run, highlighted by a new PR and top-10 time from freshman Jennifer Dietrich, who placed second out of 12 competitors in 56.16. Dietrich now has the fourth-best time in program history, and teammates Rebecca Rooney (3rd, 57.78), Tiara Tardy (4th, 57.92), Natalie Waterhouse (5th, 58.29), and Shaylyn Fahey (6th, 59.46) had good outings as well.
The Bison took care of business in the 800-meter run. Madeleine Hunt, who has had a solid rookie campaign, finished first by clocking in at 2:16.08. Jenna Farmer came in third place (2:18.06), while Emma Cousins (2:18.06) and Payton Capes (2:20.56) polished off the top five in the standings.
In the distance events, Margaret Thomson earned her first outdoor win of the season with a time of 11:07.23 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Seniors Lindsay Schafer and Sara Christian went 1-2 in the 5,000-meter run. Schafer crossed the line in first place with a time of 18:04.73, and Christian came in second after clocking in at 18:47.78.
The Bison jumps contingent had good performances across the board. Salisbury and Alexis Auman put up solid marks to take the top two spots in the long jump. Salisbury placed first after recording a season-best mark with a leap of 19-6 ¾ feet, and Auman took second after jumping 18-10 ¾ feet.
In the hurdles, Katie Sabatino (1:04.66) led a Bison sweep of the top six places in the 400 intermediates, while Auman was runner-up in the 100-meter high hurdles.
The Bison will now prepare for the Patriot League Outdoor Championships, which are scheduled for May 4-5 at Lafayette. The final day of the will be streamed on the Patriot League Network at PatriotLeague.tv.
