FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -- Freshman Jordan Lieb rallied for a three-set victory to win the F Singles flight, highlighting the final day for the Bucknell men's tennis team at the USTA Invitational at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Nick Bybel and Octavio Canibealso played in finals on Sunday but dropped their matches.
Lieb finished off a 4-0 weekend, with three of the four victories coming in three sets. Lieb defeated second-seeded Jacob Solly of Marist in a three-setter in the opening round, and he had to get past teammate Aidan Lynchin the semifinals.
Fourth-seeded Bybel was coming off a straight-set victory over top-seeded Victor Pugliese in the A Singles semifinals. He had not conceded a set in the tournament entering the final against third-seeded Arvis Berzins of Fairleigh Dickinson, but Berzins prevailed 7-5, 6-0 on Sunday.
Canibe reached the finals at C Singles, where he fell to Dylan Fletcher of Marist 6-3, 6-2.
Bybel will be back in action on Sept. 28 at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The rest of the squad will next compete Oct. 4-6 at invitationals at Virginia and Lehigh.
