STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Bridget Wilcox fired a 2-over-par 74 and the Bucknell women's golf team matched its low round of the year with a 310 on Friday in the first of three rounds of the Nittany Lion Invitational at the Penn State Blue Course. Lauren Bernard and Ellie McGuire added 78s for the Bison, who are tied for 13th place in a very strong field, but just eight shots out of fourth.

Bucknell started the day on the back nine, and right off the bat Wilcox made a birdie at the par-4 10th hole. It would be the first of three birdies on her card. She also birdied 5 and 7 as part of an even-par 36 on the course's front nine.

The freshman McGuire saw her day highlighted by back-to-back birdies on holes 5 and 6. She made nothing worse than bogey all day. Bernard did not manage a birdie, but she posted a team-best 13 pars. Only a 4-over stretch on 15-17 separated her from a terrific round.

Also for Bucknell, Emily Timmons and Kasha Scott posted 80s and Meghan Garanich shot 81 in the play-6, count-4 scoring system. Timmons and Garanich both made two birdies, while Scott had one.

Yale posted a 1-over 289 to take the team lead after 18 holes. Host Penn State is second at 293, followed by Kent State at 294. Georgetown and Longwood are tied for second at 302. Bucknell is tied with Rutgers at 310.

Christina Vosters of Penn State opened with a 3-under 69 to take the individual lead. Jennifer Ha of Kent State (-2), Josee Doyon of Kent State (-1) and Elisabeth Bernabe of Yale (-1) are all under par. Bucknell's Wilcox is tied for 15th.

Round two gets underway Saturday morning. Live results are available on Golfstat.
