PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bucknell men’s water polo team was playing its first ranked opponent of the season Sunday when it took on No. 13 Princeton in DeNunzio Pool. The Bison scored eight of the game’s final 12 goals, but the Tigers had already built too big of a cushion and Bucknell fell by a 14-9 score to fall to 6-4, 1-3 CWPA Southern Division on the year.
Princeton (11-3, 4-0 CWPA), which extended its winning streak to three games, led 7-0 in the first half, 8-1 at halftime and 10-1 early in the third quarter. The Bison did not give up, though, as they netted eight second-half goals. All nine of their scores came in the final 17:05 of play.
The Bison equaled their season high with nine ejections drawn with Else and Mike Kimble drawing three apiece from the center position.
Kurt Buchbinder and Jovan Jeremic tallied three goals apiece for Princeton, which will play at Bucknell next Sunday.
The Bison will host four league games next weekend at Kinney Natatorium. In addition to Sunday’s rematch with the Tigers, Bucknell will welcome Navy (Saturday), George Washington (Saturday) and Johns Hopkins (Sunday) to Lewisburg. Sunday’s contests will have a live video broadcast available via Bison Vision on the Patriot League Network.
