LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men’s water polo team needed to win two games Saturday to stay alive for the No. 2 seed in the CWPA Southern Division and it did just that. Freshman Sean Daley registered a season-high eight points (3g, 5a) to lead the Bison to an 11-10 victory over Navy. Just a few hours later Bucknell defeated George Washington, 12-9, behind a balanced scoring attack that featured eight different players netting at least one goal.

Bucknell improved to 8-4 on the year and evened its league mark at 3-3. It needs to beat Johns Hopkins Sunday by at least three goals to clinch the No. 2 seed in next month’s Southern Championships.

The Bison used a six-goal run early in the second half against the Mids to turn a 6-4 deficit into a 10-6 advantage. The run came during an 8 minute, 22 second stretch that spanned the third and fourth quarters. Bucknell still led by three goals with less than three minutes to play before Navy netted a couple scores in the closing minutes.

Daley had his best game as a Bison, equaling Jack Else and Mike Kimble for team-high honors with three goals. His five assists were the most by a Bucknell player this year as were his eight points.

The Bison kept the momentum going in the nightcap against George Washington, jumping out to a 4-0 first-quarter lead. They led by as many as six goals (9-3) in the first half as they cruised to their 10th win in their last 11 home games.

Daley earned his first career start against the Colonials and Else (three goals) and Kimble (two goals) contributed offensively once again. Else now has a team-high 30 goals on the season, while Kimble is up to 99 goals in his career.

Alex Nowlin finished the day with three goals and three assists to move into a tie for ninth place with Jeff Hilk on the program’s all-time assists list (134).

Keegan Williams totaled 17 saves in the two games to surpass 100 stops on the year.

Prior to the George Washington contest Bucknell’s six seniors – Julian Colina, Else, Kimble, Nowlin, Stephen Norton and Andrew Somers – were honored during Senior Day ceremonies.

The Bison will wrap up their 2013 home schedule Sunday when they host league foes Johns Hopkins (11 a.m.) and No. 12 Princeton (3 p.m.). Both games will air live on Bison Vision on the Patriot League Network.
