PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Bucknell senior Bridget Wilcox posted a 1-over-par 73 and is tied for the individual lead at the halfway point of the Rutgers Invitational, which got underway Monday at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Wilcox's stellar round paced the Bison to a 309 team score, which puts them in third place in the 20-team field.

Bucknell counted four scores in the 70s in the opening round of an event in which the Bison have historically fared well. Their 309 score trails only Delaware and Seton Hall, which both posted 302 on Monday. St. John's and Fairleigh Dickinson are two shots behind Bucknell in a tie for fourth place. Two other Patriot League teams are in the field. Lehigh opened with a 322 and Navy compiled a 364.

Wilcox is coming off a top-20 finish at Penn State's Nittany Lion Invitational, and on Monday she posted her ninth round of 79 or better in 10 tries this fall. Her 73 equalled her season low, and it was a new season best in relation to par. She lowered her team-best scoring average to 76.9 for the season.

Wilcox made three birdies in her round, tied for the most in the field, and she joins Erin McClure of Seton Hall at 1-over for the tournament. Grace Chua of Delaware and Chandini Meka of Fairleigh Dickinson are both one stroke behind. Three others opened with 75s, and a total of 26 players are within five shots of the lead.

One of those players in that pack is Bucknell's Emily Timmons, who posted a 78. Lauren Bernard and Kasha Scott both carded 79s, and Ellie McGuire's 87 was not counted. Meghan Garanich, playing as an individual, had a strong day with an 80, matching her season best.

Bucknell will play with Delaware, Seton Hall and St. John's on Tuesday. That group will tee off on No. 1 at 9:40 a.m.
