SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Bucknell men’s water polo team wrapped up its five-game weekend trip to California Sunday on the final day of the Santa Clara Rodeo. The Bison, who are ranked 18th nationally, dropped their opener to No. 10 Concordia, 15-6, and then fell to No. 16 Santa Clara, 14-12, in the final game of the 18-game Rodeo.

Bucknell (11-8) finished the weekend with a 1-4 record against difficult competition that featured four nationally ranked opponents.

The Bison had a chance to close the weekend on a high note, but their comeback against the host Broncos fell just short. After falling behind 4-0 and trailing by as many as five goals in the first half, Bucknell closed the deficit to 12-11 on a Julian Colina goal with 5:52 to play. However, Santa Clara answered with a goal 10 seconds later and went up 14-11 with 4:01 left in the final quarter. Colina added another goal with just over 90 seconds to play, but the Bison could not draw even.

Colina and Alex Nowlin tied for team-high honors with three goals apiece in the nightcap, while Mike Kimble added two scores.

Earlier in the day Concordia used a five-goal second quarter to turn a 1-1 tie into a 6-2 halftime lead. Concordia added nine goals in the second half for the nine-goal victory.

Six different Bison accounted for the team’s goals against Concordia as Jack Else, Stefan Aleksic, Nowlin, Colina, Kimble and Nate Hunter found the back of the net.

This weekend marked the end of the regular season for Bucknell. Next up is the Southern Championships Nov. 8-10 in Annapolis, Md.
