WEST POINT, N.Y. – Mike Nicholson won three events and posted a new personal best and program top-10 time in the 100 butterfly, while Jon Jones recorded the No. 7 mark in program history off the one-meter diving board during the Bucknell men’s swimming and diving team’s 195-105 loss to Army Saturday afternoon at Crandall Pool. The Bison fell to 5-3 overall and 4-1 against Patriot League competition.
Nicholson won three events for the second straight dual meet as he finished first in the 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 IM. His time of 49.76 in the 100 fly was a personal best and it moved him up from eighth to sixth on the school’s all-time list. Nicholson now has 25 victories in 29 races this season.
Jones was Bucknell’s top finisher off both boards, placing third in each competition. His score of 253.05 off the one-meter moved him from eighth to seventh on the Bison all-time ledger, leapfrogging Jake Thompson.
Ben Seketa was the only other Bison to join Nicholson in the winner’s circle as he swept the breaststroke events. He won the 100 breast by 1.05 seconds and claimed first in the 200 breast by a wide margin of 2.84 seconds.
Freshman Jack Robinson finished second in both the 100 and 200 back, while Steve Grune was second in the 50 free and Erik Heinemann was the runner-up in the 100 free, marking Bucknell’s four individual second-place showings in the meet.
Bucknell will have little rest before its next meet as it hosts Binghamton Sunday at 1 p.m. in Kinney Natatorium. Senior Day ceremonies will take place prior to the meet.
