BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Mike Nicholson won three events and set the Jacobs Pool record in the 200 IM as the Bucknell men’s swimming and diving team concluded the dual meet portion of its schedule with a 179-119 victory Saturday afternoon at Lehigh. The Bison won 12 of the 16 events as they improved to 7-3 overall and 5-1 against Patriot League opponents.

Nine of Bucknell’s wins in the swimming events were by at least one second, including two by Nicholson, who finished first in the 100 fly, 200 IM and 200 fly, giving him 29 individual first-place finishes this season. Nicholson’s time of 1 minute, 53.84 seconds in the 200 IM was a pool record as he touched the wall 2.57 seconds ahead of the runner-up from Lehigh (5-4, 3-2 PL).

Jon Jones had an impressive performance off the three-meter board to help the Bison sweep the diving events. He scored a career-best 276.30 en route to victory off the higher board. He improved his previous best by 2.47 and remains fifth in Bison history in that event. Tyler Wenzel won the one-meter board with Jones finishing third.

Nicholson was one of four Bucknell swimmers to post multiple victories Saturday as Erik Heinemann won the 100 and 200 free, Jack Robinson swept the 100 and 200 back, and Ben Seketa claimed first in the 100 and 200 breast. The 400 free relay of Heinemann, Matt Hadley, Steve Grune and Daniel Wallace recorded the other victory for the Bison in the final event of the day.

Competing for the first time since Dec. 7 at Colgate, Louis Behnen was Bucknell’s top finisher in the 1,000 free with a second-place showing, while Steve Grune (3rd) and Brian Phillips (3rd) were the top Bison finishers in the 50 free and 500 free, respectively.

Bucknell will conclude its regular season next Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Navy Invite. Start time is 12 p.m. in Annapolis, Md.
