ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell swimming and diving teams wrapped up the 2013-14 regular season Saturday afternoon at Navy, the host of the Patriot League Championships later this month. It was an unscored meet and featured a number of Bison swimming their non-traditional events against opponents from American, Army, Lehigh and host Navy.

Highlights on the men’s side included freshman Louis Behnen winning the 500 free and senior Mike Nicholson claiming first in the 100 fly, just .06 off his personal best in the event. Behnen, who was also third in the 200 back to top all Bison, was one of seven Bucknell swimmers to finish in the top 13 of the 500 free. Nicholson was one of five Bison in the top 16 of the 100 fly.

The 200 medley relay of Matt Hadley, Ben Seketa, Nicholson and Steve Grune finished second out of 25 teams.

Ben Seketa (200 IM) and Jeff Shanley (200 fly) recorded fifth-place finishes during the meet, while Erik Heinemann (500 free, 50 free), Shanley (400 IM), Will Rappaport (200 free) and Tim Perley (200 breast) posted sixth-place showings.

Melissa Besman (400 IM) and Ashley Henderson (200 IM) recorded individual victories on the women’s side. Additionally, the 200 medley relay of Emma Levendoski, Henderson, Kristen Purdy and Kaitlyn Utkewicz touched the wall first to round out the list of gold medals.

Bucknell had a top-three finisher in a number of events as Levendoski (100 free), Stephanie Koziol (1,650 free) and Rachel Perry (200 back) posted runner-up showings, while Lauren Perry was third in the 500 free and Caroline Orem was third in the 400 IM, just behind Besman. Lauren Perry was also fourth in the 50 free and was the top Bison finisher in the event.

Henderson was also fourth in the 200 back to go along with her victory in the 200 IM.

The Bison will now continue preparations for the Patriot League Championships which will take place Feb. 19-22 at Navy.
