SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Nick Bybel and senior Kyle Rosen both earned singles victories for the Bison on Saturday, but Saint Francis (Pa.) snatched the doubles point and the remaining four singles bouts to triumph 5-2 over Bucknell in a dual match at the indoor West Branch Tennis Club. The Bison fell to 0-1 in the young season with the loss, while the Red Flash improved to 2-2 with the win.

The Red Flash opened up the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to grab the point from the Bison. Bybel and junior Octavio Canibe lost a hard-fought 6-5(6) decision at the top spot, while senior Aidan Lynch and freshman Bryan Adams were defeated 6-2. Junior Jonathan DeFrancesch and senior Scott Bernstein earned a win at the third spot, playing to a 6-1 triumph over Eli Cerdan and Plamen Avuski.

Bybel earned a 6-1,6-0 victory over Washi Gervais at the No. 1 singles spot, and Rosen came from behind to defeat Kyle Korus 4-6, 6-5 (3), 10-6 at No. 6 singles, but St. Francis claimed four points with wins at 2-5, taking the match.

Bucknell returns to the court next weekend for matches on Feb. 8 and Feb. 9. The Bison will play at Penn State at 5 p.m. on Saturday, before heading to St. Peter’s for a 2 p.m. competition on Sunday.
