Wrestling Splits in Road Matches at Army and Sacred Heart
Release:   02/09/2014

WEST POINT, N.Y./FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Bucknell wrestling team competed in a pair of EIWA road duals on Sunday and split results against Army and Sacred Heart. The Bison opened the day with a 24-11 loss to the Black Knights at West Point and then traveled the 75 miles to Fairfield, Conn., and defeated the Pioneers 36-6, their second-largest margin of victory in 2013-14.

Paul Petrov, Victor Lopez and Joe Stolfi extended their personal winning streaks by going 2-0 on the day. Petrov has won four bouts in a row, while Lopez now has seven consecutive victories. Stolfi has 11 straight wins thanks to his major decision vs. Army and fall vs. Sacred Heart.

The 125-pound Petrov opened the day with a major decision against the Black Knights, while Lopez posted a 3-0 decision at 149 to tie the score at 7-7. However, Army claimed the next five bouts in a row before Stolfi won by a 17-4 major decision at 285.

Tyler Lyster forced overtime at 197, but suffered a 3-1 loss against the Black Knights. That was one of three two-point losses for the Bison as Grim Gonzalez at 133 and Rustin Barrick at 165 also had tight bouts.

Bucknell (8-10, 4-3 EIWA) improved to 3-0 all-time against Sacred Heart with the dominating 30-point victory. The Bison won all eight of the bouts that were contested with Petrov gaining a forfeit at 125.

Gonzalez, Connor Lapresi, Lopez, Ray Schlitt, Barrick and Rory Bonner each won by decision before Lyster and Stolfi closed out the match with back-to-back pins. It was the 18th fall of the year for Stolfi, who ranks second nationally in that category. He is now just two pins away from tying Brian Pitzer for first on the program’s single-season list.

Bucknell has now outscored Sacred Heart 111-27 in three all-time meetings.

The Bison, who have their most wins in a season since posting a 12-6 mark in 2009-10, will return to action Friday at Franklin & Marshall. Start time for that EIWA dual is 7:30 p.m.
