Release:   02/28/2014

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Patriot League’s top point scorer in the Class of 2014, Mike Nicholson followed a strong conference championship meet with another strong outing Friday on the first day of the ECAC Championships at Navy’s Lejeune Hall. The senior registered the top finish for the Bucknell men, placing second in the 200 IM. He was also part of a pair of relays, one of which posted a program top-10 time.

The Bison are in sixth place in the team standings after day one of the three-day meet. Five individuals and two relays earned points Friday for Bucknell, which is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Patriot League Championships.

Nicholson, the 2012 ECAC champion in the 400 IM and 200 breast, took home the silver medal in the 200 IM Friday. It marked his third straight top-three finish in the event after placing second in 2012 and third in 2013. Nicholson, the school record-holder in the 200 IM, finished second in the prelims and matched that in the finals, touching the wall in 1:49.31.

Freshman Jack Robinson also scored in the 200 IM, finishing ninth in 1:52.34, the No. 9 time in program history.

Sean Lyons (14th in 500 free), Erik Heinemann (12th in 50 free) and Steve Grune (16th in 50 free) also scored for the Bison.

The 400 medley relay of Robinson, Ben Seketa, Nicholson and Heinemann recorded the third-best time (3:19.79) in program annals en route to a runner-up finish in the finals. The 200 free relay of Grune, Heinemann, Nicholson and Daniel Wallace tied for fourth.
