FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- No. 13/15 Fairfield broke open a 5-5 tie with five straight goals in the second half, and the Stags topped Bucknell 10-6 on Tuesday at Alumni Field. Peter Burke tallied two goals and an assist and Sean Doyle also scored twice for the Bison, who dropped their second straight game to ranked opponents on the heels of a three-game winning streak.

The game was tightly contested for three quarters, as neither team led by more than a goal in the first 45 minutes. The Bison (5-6) flipped a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead on consecutive goals by Doyle and Brock Ghelfi, and they led again 4-3 after Burke's unassisted goal just under four minutes into the second quarter.

Fairfield (8-2) tied it just 1:15 before intermission on the second of four goals by T.J. Neubauer, and the Stags took the lead early in the third quarter on a Dave Fleming score. Tom Black tied the game for the fifth time with 6:07 left in the third, but with 35 seconds left Tristan Sperry fed Drew Federico to give the Stags the lead for good.

Eric Warden gave Fairfield the first multi-goal lead of the day at the 12:18 mark of the fourth quarter, and after two more goals by Neubauer and another by Fleming the Stags had a commanding 10-5 lead.

Burke finished off the scoring, with David Dickson picking up his third assist of the day.

Bucknell outshot Fairfield 43-27 and had a 34-30 edge in ground balls, but Jack Murphy had a big day in goal for the Stags with 11 saves. Sam Grinberg made nine stops for the Bison.

Fairfield won 11 of the 19 faceoffs, and both teams committed 14 turnovers. Bison ground ball leader Alex Spring picked up six more GBs, and short-stick defensive midfielder Zach Henkhaus recorded a team-high three caused turnovers.

Bucknell will have another non-conference game on Saturday at home against Mount St. Mary's at 4 p.m. The game will be webcast live on Bison Vision on the Patriot League Network.
