LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Senior Katelyn Miller matched her career high with six goals and classmate Lindsey Ferro set a new personal best with six assists to lead the Bucknell women's lacrosse squad to a comfortable 22-8 win over Howard on Tuesday evening at Graham Field. Thirteen different Bucknell players scored goals and 17 registered at least one point as the Bison rolled to their second straight victory.
Bucknell scored the game's first five goals and then finished the half on a 4-0 run after Howard had closed within 8-5. Up 12-5 at the half, Bucknell then scored nine of the first 10 goals in the second half to put the game well out of reach.
Ferro was coming off a three-assist, four-point game in an 11-10 win over American on Saturday, and she now has nine assists in her last two games after passing out a half-dozen in this one. That total is two shy of the school single-game record of eight assists, set by Caraol Donohue at Wagner in 2008. The six assists are tied for third-most in a game in program history.
Miller also had a six-goal game last season in a win over Presbyterian. Against Howard, she scored her six goals on just six shots. Four of those came in the first half, including a big one with 10:00 remaining in the half to stop Howard's momentum after the visitors had just scored three straight goals in a span of only 1:06.
Also for Bucknell, Claire Switala recorded her second straight hat trick and freshman attacker Christina Manis had her most productive game to date with two goals and three assists. This week's Patriot League Rookie of the Week Maddy Molinari added two goals, Emily Becker, Emily Kookogey and Sophie Kleinert all tallied one goal and one assist, and defender Kerri Althouse notched her first points of the season with a pair of assists.
In the second half freshmen Becca Golding and Annie Gilbertson scored their first career goals, and junior Carly Downs notched her first goal since the 2012 season. Sam Rickels, Bridget Shaffrey and Cori Thielemann also found the net.
Cynithia Smalls scored four times for Howard (0-9), while Jaymie Cox and Courtland Lackey added two goals apiece. Jasmine Wilson made 14 saves.
Bucknell (2-10) piled up a 45-19 shot advantage and led 28-16 in ground balls and 18-13 in draw controls. Bucknell was a perfect 14-for-14 on clears while holding Howard to 9-for-20. Howard committed 23 turnovers to just 13 for Bucknell.
Bucknell will turn its attention back to Patriot League play on Saturday when Holy Cross comes to Graham Field for a 1 p.m. contest. Bucknell's eight seniors will be recognized prior to the final home game of the season.
