LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell assistant men’s basketball coach Joe Meehan on Tuesday was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ 2016-17 Under Armour 30-Under-30 honor roll, recognizing a group of top young coaches across the nation.

Meehan was an assistant coach under Nathan Davis at Randolph-Macon, and when Davis returned to Bucknell prior to the 2015-16 season, he brought Meehan along to be the manager of basketball operations. When Ryan Ayers departed for Notre Dame in the summer of 2016, Meehan was elevated to assistant coach, where he helped the Bison capture Patriot League regular-season and tournament titles in March.

“Joe has been on my staff for four years now, and he is more than just a recruiter and X’s & O’s guy,” said Davis. “He is good at everything you need to do to be successful in coaching. Joe has a very bright future and will be a head coach one day.”

Meehan played four years of college basketball at Lebanon Valley College, graduating in 2012 with a degree in biology. He averaged 18.4 points, 6.1 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 steals per contest. Meehan played in 105 games and tallied more than 1,600 points, 500 assists and 200 steals. The point guard was a three-year captain and three-time all-conference performer after earning Rookie-of-the-Year and Freshman All-America honors. Meehan was a D3hoops.com Preseason All-American prior to his senior campaign. He was twice named second team all-region and was selected ECAC Most Outstanding Player.

A native of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, Meehan played professionally in Switzerland for Basketball Club Kusnacht-Erlenbach (BCKE) of LnB Suisse Basketball League. He averaged 18 points, five assists and four steals per game. Meehan also coached a semi-professional team while in Switzerland, and he has made two trips back to Europe as a coach on Hoop Group tours.
