LEWISBURG, Pa. – Following a historic performance over the weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic, Bucknell junior Colleen Buckley has been named M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Buckley broke the school record in the 5,000-meter race. The junior won the event with a time of 16:29.83, finishing nearly four seconds faster than the second-place runner. Buckley smashed the previous best of 16:37.23, set by Christine Bendzinski at the Colonial Relays. Her time is the fastest in the Patriot League this season and the 73rd-fastest time in the nation.

It was one of two school records broken at the meet, as Kate Scott broke a 30-year-old record in the 10,000m. She was the runner-up in the race with a time of 34:46.48, shaving nearly 18 seconds off the school record set by Judy Perry in 1987.

Meg Sangimino was an honorable mention following her performance in the javelin. The senior won the event with a heave of 158-4, just short of the program record of 158-7 set by Laura Rycek in 2011. Her throw is the best mark in the Patriot league and is 33rd in the country.

Bucknell will host its final home meet of the season, the Bucknell Team Challenge, on Apr. 22.
