LEWISBURG, Pa. – Tyler Smith improved to 3-0 by topping Luke Karam during the Bucknell wrestling team's dual against No. 10 Lehigh on Friday night at Sojka Pavilion.

Smith scored a takedown late in the third period and then picked up the bonus point for having more than a minute of riding time to win the 141 bout by a 5-3 decision.

At 125, Jakob Campbell gave defending national champion Darian Cruz a battle. The freshman trailed only 1-0 until late in the second period before ceding the match, 6-1.

In his first start of the 2017-18 campaign, Garrett Hoffman rallied from an early 6-0 deficit to drop a tight 9-5 decision to Jake Jakobsen. Hoffman came back from having a bloody nose patched up to score a takedown on the restart but ultimately couldn't erase Jakobsen's advantage.

The Mountain Hawks, who started five nationally ranked wrestlers, ultimately defeated the Bison, 36-2. It was Lehigh's first match of the 2017-18 campaign. Bucknell was deducted one team point for badgering the official.

The Bison (0-3, 0-1 EIWA) return to the mat when they travel to No. 1 Penn State on Sunday for a 2 p.m. match in Rec Hall. It will be the first official meeting between Bucknell and Penn State, winner of six of the past seven NCAA titles.
