PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- While the Bucknell rowing team turned in a strong third-place finish at the Patriot League Championships on Friday, the Bison sent another contingent of competitors to the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia over the weekend. Bucknell sent out six boats in four different events: the freshman/novice eight (2), doubles (2), JV four (1) and third varsity eight (1).
Highlighting the weekend for the Bison was a win for the third varsity eight and a third-place finish in the finals of the freshman/novice eight.
Each rower in the varsity four that won a silver medal at the Patriot League Championships doubled up in the third varsity eight at the Dad Vail. Freshman Cecilia Manganello, who earned All-Patriot League honors after stroking the varsity four at the league meet, also occupied the stroke seat in the 3V8+ at the Dad Vail. Erin Rigney, Ally Demas and Meredith Newman also competed in both events.
Piloted by coxswain Stephanie Larkin, the 3V8+ posted a time of 7:02.689 to easily outdistance Saint Joseph's (7:16.386) and Drexel (7:48.537).
The freshman/novice eight, stroked by Alex Rothstein, finished second in its preliminary heat behind Georgia Tech and qualified for the grand final. The Bison bettered their time by 18 seconds in the final (7:10.385) and finished third behind Army and Georgia Tech. Bucknell placed ahead of Purdue, Fordham and Villanova in the final.
Bucknell's other freshman/novice eight placed fifth in its heat and second to Marquette in final No. 3.
The JV four finished 18th in the time trial in 7:55.223 and followed with a sixth-place finish in the semifinals and a fifth-place standing in Final No. 3.
